LINER NOTES
Sure, there is a limited amount of real estate around the eye but makeup artists get exceedingly creative with what little they have to work with – especially when it comes to eyeliner. As always, the international runways are a great place to see the infinite variety of makeup methods and the fall 2011 season was no different (see below). Not all of the looks make the transition into real life but there’s always a way to turn down the volume if you happen to try any of these at home.
I’m a big fan of eyeliner myself and opt for some variation of a cat-eye at all times (best to develop your eccentricities early, right?). After years of experimentation, I’ve settled on Clinique’s Quickliner For Eyes in black/brown ($15 at Sephora) for day and Chanel’s Écriture de Chanel in black ($34 at Chanel.com) for night. Using a cotton swab with a bit of lotion in an upward and outward motion from underneath the line will get you the sharp, cat-eye finish.
